Dr. Ajith V. Kamath, VP - Structural Biology
Dr. Ajith V. Kamath obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He pursued his postdoctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin and Stanford University. He was supported by the Robert Welch Foundation and the Career Investigator Post-doctoral Fellowship from the American Heart Association. Dr. Kamath worked at Pfizer Global Research & Development for over 13 years. Initially, he joined the Protein Expression and Structure Team at Pfizer’s site in Groton, CT. His group cloned and purified proteins to facilitate drug discovery by X-ray crystallography, NMR and HTS techniques. In 1999, Dr. Kamath moved to Pfizer’s Research Center in Cambridge, MA, where he was the Associate Director of the Protein Science group. He helped establish X-ray crystallography facility, protein expression and purification and, biophysical characterization groups. He played a key role in the successful implementation of gene family approach for phosphodiesterases and kinases at this center. Dr. Kamath’s group contributed to many HTS, chemical tools and protein crystallography projects. He has 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at international scientific meetings. Dr. Kamath has been an advisor for many protein conferences.
